Mossman Cranes

At Kelly’s Crane Hire, we have a range of cranes and lifting equipment available for hire in Far North Queensland, including Mossman, Port Douglas, Daintree, Julatten and Cooktown.

  • 110T Grove GMK5110-1 - Our 110T crane can operate with between 1T and 40.1T of counterweight, depending on your job requirements. This crane has 51m of main boom, but can extend to 84 metres with the addition of 2 extension sections and a luffing fly. This will give a working radius of 65 metres.

  • 40T Franna Crane - One of the first of these machines in FNQ. This crane has a 19.8m 4 section powered boom with 19m maximum hook height. This crane has been in our fleet since July 2022. With our own float and dolly, we can mobilise this crane to service customers requirements throughout our region.
  • 20T Franna Crane - We have a 20T Franna in our fleet, which are the most versatile for lifting and pick and carry jobs.

  • 13T Tadano City Crane - This crane is only 2.2 metres wide and has 24 metres of boom so is ideal for roof trusses or getting into narrow driveways. These cranes are quick to be lift ready, fast to shift the load and easy to pack up for departure.
  • 2.5T Manitou Telehandler - This telehandler has a 6m boom and comes with forks but also has an attachable jib for very small crane jobs.

All You Need To Know

  • What types of cranes are best for construction projects?

The best crane for a construction project depends on factors like load capacity, height requirements, and site conditions. Mobile cranes, such as Franna cranes, are ideal for pick-and-carry tasks, offering flexibility in tight spaces. Slewing cranes, like the 110T Grove GMK5110-1, provide high lifting capacity and extended reach, making them suitable for large-scale builds. City cranes, such as the 13T Kato, work well in confined areas due to their compact size and maneuverability. Choosing the right crane ensures efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness for your project.

  • How do I determine the right crane for my project?

Selecting the right crane depends on weight, lift height, site accessibility, and terrain conditions. First, assess the total weight of the materials or equipment you need to lift. Next, consider the required reach—some cranes, like the 110T Grove, have extendable booms for extra height. If your project site has limited access, a Franna or city crane may be the best choice. Consulting with an experienced crane operator or hire company can help ensure you choose the safest and most efficient option.

  • What safety measures should be followed when operating cranes?

Crane safety is critical to preventing accidents and ensuring smooth operations. Operators must be licensed and trained to handle specific crane types. Routine maintenance checks should be performed to ensure all parts function correctly. Load limits must never be exceeded, and proper rigging techniques should be used to secure materials. Wind speed, ground stability, and overhead obstructions should also be considered before lifting. Safety gear, such as harnesses and hard hats, is essential for all personnel involved in crane operations.
